Valentine Cards
Looking for a little creative inspiration this Valentine’s Day? You’re in luck! We asked designer Paris Dukes to create two sweet handmade cards that can be made quickly and easily using coordinating papers and ribbons. Just keep reading to see her two darling designs! (Tip: We also think these Valentines are perfect for anniversary cards…and they’re versatile enough that you can make one for no occasion at all—just to tell someone “I love you”!)
Love is the Bridge
Paris’ tip: Cutting off a strip from the bottom front of the card is a fun technique that adds a special touch to your card—and it lets a matching paper show through.
Supplies:
Instructions:
- Place the card with the fold at the top. Cut 1 1/4” off the bottom of the front panel. Cover the inside of the card with gray patterned paper. Ink the edges black. Add two loopy brads to the bottom of the card, about 3 1/2" apart. String red sheer ribbon between them and tie in a knot.
- Cover the front of the card with red “texture” paper and ink the edges. Cut a 1 1/4"-wide strip of vellum and ink the edges. Apply a dab of glue to the center of the card, then attach the vellum strip horizontally across the front of the card. Trim the edges of the vellum even with the card.
- Cut out the card quote and ink the edges, then mat on black “textured” paper. Glue to the center of the card, covering the glue behind the vellum.
- For the inside of the card: Cut out the coordinating card quote, ink the edges and mat on black “textured” paper. Glue in the center.
Two Hearts Card

Paris’ tip: I applied the Rule of Uneven Numbers on this card with my gingham ribbon. The Rule of Uneven Numbers says to use embellishments in groups of 3, 5 or 7, so I crossed two pieces of ribbon on the left side of the card, balancing it with a third piece of ribbon on the heart clip.
Supplies:
Instructions:
- Place the card with the fold on the left. Cut a piece of red words paper to the size of the card front, but don’t glue down yet. Cut out the card quote, leaving as much white space as possible on each side. Mat on glimmer paper. Glue across the center of the red definitions paper and trim to fit.
- Cross two pieces of black gingham ribbon on the left side of the card, adding a mini silver brad where they cross. Wrap the ends of the ribbon to the back of the red words paper and secure. Glue the paper to the front of the card.
- Tie a piece of ribbon on the heart clip; clip to the upper right corner of the card quote.
- For the inside of the card: Cut a 2"-wide strip of red words paper and mat it on glimmer paper. Glue it to the right side as shown. Handwrite a message on the matching tag and glue it to the center of the card as shown. Add a silver mini brad to the tag.
