The air is crisp, the leaves are changing colors and the weather is cooling–it must be Autumn! What better way to add Fall flair to your pages than with rich colors in shades of brown, gold, orange and plum mixed with leafy, textured patterns? On this “Autumn Classic” layout, Paris emphasized the season with papers and accents from Busy Scrapper’s Solution 4 Seasons Papers. She used these papers in the background of the layout, as well as to mat photos and journaling and to create a border. Artwork and alphabet tiles from the 4 Seasons Papers were used to create the title and to embellish the page along with brads and ribbon strips.
Remember the Rule of 3! Following the Rule of 3 is an easy way to make sure your layouts are visually balanced. Notice how I used the rule on this “Autumn Classic” layout: 3 brads, 3 gingham ribbons, 3 areas with tag shapes. This rule also lets you easily repeat similar shapes throughout your page for even more balance. The 3 gingham ribbons and the 3 areas with tag shapes each create visual triangles on the page, and the folded over corner creates another triangle shape–that’s 3 triangles, too!
Supplies:
Instructions:
- Use the gold leaves paper as the background. Cut a 2 1/4”x12” strip of plaid collaged paper and glue it to the bottom of the background paper. Cut out the ribbon border and attach it over the seam between the plaid collaged paper and the gold leaves paper. Cut out the word “Autumn” and glue it over the left side of the ribbon border. Cut a 3” length of gingham ribbon and tie a knot in the center, then adhere the knot to the top of the letter “A” with a Glue Dot™. Add one antique brad to the top of each of the “u”s and the “n”. Cut out the alphabet tiles and mat on gold textured paper, trimming the mats to 1/16”. Glue the tiles to the right side of the plaid collage paper strip.
- Mat both photos on brown textured paper. For the horizontal photo, trim the mat to 1/8”. For the vertical photo, trim the left, right and bottom sides of the mat to 1/8” and the top to 1 1/4”. Cut a 5” length of gingham ribbon and lay it across the top edge of the vertical photo mat, wrapping the ends around the edges to secure on the back. Cut out the circular leaf tag and glue it so it overlaps the top right corner of the photo and the ribbon strip. Cut a 5” length of gingham ribbon and tie a knot in the center, then attach the knot to the top of the tag with a Glue Dot™.
- Computer journal onto gold textured paper. Mat the journaling on brown textured paper, trimming the mat to 1/8”. Fold over the top right corner of the background paper and chalk the white folded over piece with brown. Tuck the matted journaling under the folded over piece and glue to the background paper, then glue the folded over piece in place on top of the journaling. Cut a square of plaid collage paper and glue it behind the folded over area to fill in the top right corner. Cut out the gold oak leaf tag and glue it in the top right corner of the page. Cut a 5” length of gingham ribbon and tie a knot in the center, then attach the knot to the top of the tag with a Glue Dot™.
