Shauna says:

“To honor the photo and the heritage, I’ve kept this layout simple with clean lines to keep from distracting from the photo. The diamond folds give the page a timeless, classic look, creating dimension and texture without a lot of bulk. The gold accents add a regal touch to the layout.”

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Trim muted light green to 2” x 10” and glue to the back of 11” x 11 1/2” green sponged. Be sure that the color is facing toward you when you glue down the strip, centered and 1/2” from the bottom edge, horizontally.
  2. Place the template in the center of the green-sponged paper, with the design to be used 1 3/4” from the bottom edge. Outline Diamond Folds pattern in pencil. Move the template 2” to the right and trace the two diamonds folds on the right side of the template. Move the template to the left, so it is 2” to the left of the center design and trace only the two diamond folds on the left side of the template. Using an X-acto® knife and a ruler to guide you, carefully cut the drawn lines. Fold cuts over to create muted light green folds. Slide a piece of scrap paper under the folds and ink folds with moss green and chocolate brown ink. Ink the green-sponged paper in the same fashion, concentrating a lot of ink on the edges. Computer journal, print and trace font onto sponged paper with black pen. Cut a 12” piece of ivory ribbon, thread through diamond folds, wrap around to the back of sponged paper and secure on each side. Use glue and Glue Dots™ to secure diamond folds. Center green sponged on green scroll and secure. Place large gold brads in each corner.
  3. Mat photo on gold, trim to 1/16”. Mat on muted light green, trim to 1/4”. Ink edges with chocolate brown and moss green inks by running the edges along the ink pad, sponging it on and dragging it. Center on sponged green paper.
  4. Cut out “Family” word charm, punch a 1/16” hole in top center, place mini brad through hole and secure behind. Adhere to layout as shown.

Make a Wish

Here Shauna adapted a Spring Things shape primarily used for cards to create an interesting, dimensional page embellishment to tuck photos and journaling into. Chalking and wrapping silver thread and star sequins around the cut edges also gives the shape depth and dimension.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Trim blue sponged paper to 8” x 12”. Cut a 1 1/2” x 8” window out of the left side, 1/2” from left edge and 1 1/4” from top edge. Mat on silver and trim, leaving 1/16” all around, including window. Trace circle Spring Things shape onto lower right hand side, 1/2” from right edge and 1 1/4” from bottom using a silver gel pen. Allow ink to dry. Cut along lines of the circle, using an X-acto® knife, just outside of the silver pen line. On the top half of the circle, cut all the way through the stop marks so the entire top of the circle shape is loose and comes away from the background—this will allow you to slip the photo and journaling behind. Use the silver pen to finish drawing the circle lines. Tie a bow with and run silver fiber across the center of the middle circle and around the inside edge of the window and outside right edge of the sponged blue paper as shown.
  2. Mat onto white vellum, tear to 1/2” mat on left and right edges. Color torn edges with embossing pen, sprinkle with silver and heat set. Place silver mesh under left side of piece so that it shows through the vellum window; center onto the blue stars paper.
  3. Cut out “Make a Wish” charm and attach to center circle with foam tape. Wrap circles with silver thread and periodically string silver star sequins—tack them down with Mini Glue Dots™. Tear out moon from blue moon and stars paper and attach to small embossed silver tag. Punch 1/16” hole in top of tag, string with silver cord and tie to outer circle of Spring Things shape. Secure with foam tape. Mat photo on silver, trim to 1/16”. Computer journal on white and trim to size, leaving large margins at the top and bottom; mat on silver and trim to 1/16”. Tuck corner of photo behind Spring Things shape and adhere. Tuck journaling behind shape, overlapping photo and adhere. Carefully lift cut circle shapes and place small pieces of foam tape behind for dimension. Chalk under raised circle shapes with black to add depth.
  4. Place a star brad onto a small embossed tag, punch top with 1/16” hole punch, string with silver cord and tie to spiral clip. Slip spiral clip onto top of journaling and secure tag with foam tape.
  5. Tear moon and star out of blue moon and stars background paper, adhere to embossed circle tag, punch top with 1/16”, string with silver cord and hang from silver star brad in top left of page. Secure with foam tape.
  6. Attach silver star sequins over silver mesh using Mini Glue Dots™.
  7. Trace and transfer additional journaling from white to blue sponged and outline with black pen.
