Trick or Treat
By LeNae Gerig

LeNae says: “Halloween pages don't need to be scary or even reflect a fall theme. My daughter didn't like the scary costumes and wanted to be a clown for her first Trick or Treat, so I used that theme for my page.

“The inspiration for the page colors came from the clown Cut-Out?#8212;the blue background was neutral and the black
and white checked border reminded me of the gingham on Lauren's costume.”

Supply List

Instructions:

  1. Cut a 4 3/8?x 12?strip of blue circles paper and mat with black. Glue to the blue diamond paper, 1?from the right edge as shown. Crop the photos into squares and mat with black. Adhere photos to the page at angles as if they were tumbling down the page.
  2. Cut a 4 1/2?x 7?strip of blue circles paper and tear away about 1/2?from the bottom edge. Mat the strip with black paper and tear the bottom edge. Insert eyelets in each corner. Cut two 5? lengths of ribbon and thread each through the top eyelets from back to the front, taping the ends to the back to secure. Tie the ends at the front in a knot and trim the tails to 1?long.
  3. Cut out the clown and glue to the strip as shown. Adhere strip to the left side of the page. Cut out the “TRICK OR TREAT?letters from the typewriter alphabet and adhere to the page using foam squares. Journal and mat on black. Glue the journaling to the bottom as shown. Use remaining ribbon and tie a knot at the center. Trim the tails to 1?long and glue above journaling.

The Boo Crew
By Shauna Berglund-Immel

Looking for a “grown-up” Halloween layout? Shauna created this spook-tacular layout by combining “lumpy” scrapbook techniques with collaged background paper and vellum. “Tear and chalk strips of vellum to create spooky clouds—then layer embellishments on top,” she suggests.

Supply List

Instructions:

  1. Cut out tag letters, mat on black; place a gold micro eyelet in each tag. Tear two strips of white vellum, about 2” wide. Chalk edges with black.
  2. Mat photos on tan, then black. Cut three strands of fibers, about 10” long each. Tie each fiber around the end of a torn vellum strip, place foam tape under tag to secure. Adhere one photo over the hanging fibers using foam tape.
  3. Add all other photos to the layout. Place other torn vellum strip on second page.
  4. Place foam tape on the back of all tag letters and secure to the vellum strip as shown, using gold thread to stitch through the micro eyelets to the vellum strip.
  5. Computer print journaling onto white vellum and tear around edges. Chalk torn edges with black. Secure to layout by stitching fibers across torn journaling as shown. Stitch two corners of each of the photos (except foam mounted one) as shown.

Autumn Page
By LeNae Gerig

After creating this simple page LeNae found that she was out of fall page embellishments, so she decided to make her own. She chalked over a real maple leaf and tore out orange ovals to make pumpkins. She was pleased with the effect and used what she had to complete the page.

Supply List

Instructions:

  1. For the borders: Tear two 1 5/8” x 12” strips of fall leaves paper and glue each to the top and bottom of the light sage green paper. Cut two 5/8” x 12” strips of yellow/rust plaid and glue over the top and bottom edges of the leaf paper as shown.
  2. Mat the vertical photo on orange and dark sage. Mat horizontal photo on orange then a wide mat of plaid paper. Tear the bottom edge of the plaid. Glue a 1” wide torn strip of orange to extend from under the torn plaid edge. Repeat with a 1” wide strip of torn stripe paper. Trim the paper even with the sides of the plaid mat. Mat the entire piece a final time using dark sage.
  3. Cut out and glue the “AUTUMN” tags to the torn mat as shown. Carefully use the X-acto® knife to make a small cut through the top of each. Insert a mini brad through each cut and fasten. Arrange the matted photos on the page as shown.
  4. To make the pumpkins: Tear nine 3/4” x 1 1/2” ovals and apply brown chalk around the edges of each. Tear three 1/8” x 1/4” dark green sage stems. Glue 2 ovals side by side and at a slight angle. Glue the stem to the top. Glue the third oval over the center of the first two. Computer journal and place the real leaf or cut out leaf (see pattern) over the center of the journaling. Apply chalk around the edges. Remove leaf to reveal a “shadow” effect. Mat.
