Elegant card designs don’t have to be difficult—just ask designer Shauna Berglund-Immel. Shauna created the unique fold on the spine of this card with a pattern from the Lattice Folds template, then added coordinating papers and embellishment to decorate the card further. Here Shauna shares her gorgeous design and the pattern she used to create it.
Supplies:
Instructions:
- With the fold at the left, place the card on your cutting mat.
Using tracing and transfer paper:
Cut your tracing paper to 6 1/2” tall, then trace the pattern onto the left edge of the tracing paper so it’s centered on the edge of the paper. Place the left edge of the tracing paper onto the left edge of the card with transfer paper in between and trace the pattern onto the card edge with the pencil.
Using the Lattice Folds Template:
Start with the template straight in front of you. Turn the template to the left and find the second pattern from the right side. Line the left edge of the lines up with the left edge of the card, centering it along the card edge. Trace the pattern on the card edge.
- Keeping the card closed, use the ruler and X-acto® knife to cut along the lines you traced, cutting through both the front and back of the card. Open the card flat (with the card front face-up), and starting with the bottom cut, fold each point downward. Close the card.
- Cut a 4 1/2” wide piece of light blue scroll paper and glue to the card front, aligning with the right edge. Trim the excess from the top and bottom of the card. Cut a 4 1/2” x 2 1/2” piece of dark blue sponged paper and tear the bottom edge. Aligning the right edge of the paper with the right edge of the card front, glue to the top of the card, overlapping the light blue scroll.
- Assemble one glassine envelope and glue the edges together. Glue centered, 1/2” from the bottom edge of the card front. Wrap a piece of blue grosgrain ribbon diagonally across the envelope front, securing the ends on the back. Cut out the small blue tag and the “Love” fragment. Glue the fragment at an angle onto the tag. Punch a hole in the top of the tag and thread onto a group of ribbons. Add ribbons diagonally across the envelope front in the opposite direction of the blue grosgrain, securing the ends on the back. Thread the end of a silver spiral clip through the hole in the tag top and wrap the end around behind the blue grosgrain ribbon to secure.
- Cut out the card quote and mat on blue vellum, leaving 1/8”. Chalk the quote with blue and purple and glue at an angle over the top flap of the envelope.
- For the card inside: Cut a 3 1/4” wide piece of light blue scroll paper and glue 1” from the right side of the card inside. Cut out the card quote and mat on blue vellum, leaving 1/8”. Chalk the quote with blue and purple. Glue the quote 1/4” from the right side of the card inside back, approximately 1 1/2” from the top.
