Accordion fold books aren’t always square or rectangle—another fun and easy shape to try is a triangle. Here’s a small pattern for a perfect-sized cover. You can still use just one strip of paper to create the inside pages.

Supplies:

• two 3” mat board squares, one 4” x 2” piece
• lavender flowers on purple: Muted Tints
• glue
X-acto® knife and cutting mat
• Artsy Collage™ Pretty Paper Art
• Paper Pizazz® Romantic Embossed Charms
• tracing and transfer paper

Instruction:

1. Trace and transfer this triangle cover pattern onto the two 3” mat board squares. Cut them out. Apply glue to the backside of a piece of the lavender flowers on purple paper and place a mat board triangle in the center. Turn the board and paper over and smooth it down. Turn it over again and use the ruler and X-acto® knife to cut off the excess paper around the mat board triangle, leaving a 1/2” border on each side. (You can also draw the lines and cut with scissors.) Repeat for the other cover.
2. Trace and transfer this triangle gauge pattern onto the remaining piece of mat board. Cut it out. Lay a mat board with the cover paper on your cutting mat so the bottom edge of the paper is aligned with a straight line on the grid. Stand the gauge on edge at the top point of the cover triangle so it’s parallel to the bottom of the cover paper. Draw a pencil line along the outside edge of the gauge onto the cover paper. This line will be the distance of one board width from the point of the mat board triangle.
3. Lay the gauge down flat with the longest side up against the right edge of the cover mat board. The point of the gauge should align with the pencil line you drew in the previous step. Draw a pencil line along the top edge of the gauge. Repeat on the left side of the mat board triangle. Turn the cover so another side forms the base and draw another set of lines. Repeat for the third point.
4. Cut off the excess paper at each point along the lower set of pencil lines. Repeat these steps with the other cover. Apply glue to the edges of the cover paper that extends beyond the mat board. Fold each edge of the cover paper onto the back of the mat board, one at a time, and smooth the paper down. Pay attention to the points. The paper should cover the points without extending over them. Repeat with the other cover.
5. Glue the ribbon and inside pages and decorate the cover with paper art and embossed paper charms as shown.
