Vellum shadows are a unique way to repeat an element on your page. Simply
enlarge an element, cut it out of vellum and add it to your layout.
These butterfly patterns are the perfect treat for spring and summer
layouts and they mimic the butterflies in the patterned paper and photo.
Check out how Arlene used them on this gorgeous page showcasing Natalie’s
love for nature!
Discovering Nature
By Arlene Peterson
Arlene’s vellum shadows express Natalie’s huge love of nature.
First, she cut the purple butterflies paper on the diagonal and glued
it to the lavender butterflies paper as shown. She added strips of purple
vellum at the top and bottom of the page for balance and a place for journaling.
Arlene also journaled on a piece of purple vellum and attached it to the
lower left of the page.
Arlene cut out one large butterfly and two small ones, then added glitter
details for sparkle and a touch of elegance. She angled the large butterfly
in the center of the page, over the seam between the background papers
and added one small butterfly to each border as shown.
She matted the photo on silver and placed it in the center of the page,
over the large butterfly. Arlene outlined the butterflies, journaling
block and strips of vellum with a silver pen to coordinate with the silver
photo mat.
