Click here to download and print pattern.

A paper-pieced embellishment can be just the right addition to complete a page. This butterfly goes perfectly with the nature-themed background and also brightens up the page, coordinating with the photo and journaling mats.

Supplies:

For the pattern:

  • patterned Paper Pizazz™: purple/pink swirl, purple/black swirl, purple swirl: Bright Great Backgrounds
  • solid Paper Pizazz™: black: Solid Jewel Tones
  • black pen: Zig® Writer
  • tracing and transfer paper
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • adhesive

Other Page Supplies:

  • patterned Paper Pizazz®: ivy (available by the sheet)
  • specialty Paper Pizazz®: vellum swirls: Vellum Papers
  • solid Paper Pizazz®: medium blue, lavender: Solid Pastel Papers

Instructions:

  1. Trim 1/8” from each side of ivy paper. Cut a 10” square from the center of the medium, creating a frame. Glue ivy to frame, centered. Place swirls vellum to left of page, 1/2” from edge and centered. Mat horizontal photos on lavender. Mat vertical photo on lavender, then medium blue. Glue as shown, gluing vellum down by placing adhesive behind photos. Journal on lavender, mat on medium blue.
  2. Create paper-pieced butterfly. Trace outside wings onto purple/pink swirl paper and cut out. Trace inside wings onto purple/black swirls paper and cut out. Trace body and head onto purple swirl. Mat each piece on black. Cut out antennas, eyes and mouth from black. Glue butterfly together, then glue to page as shown, overlapping photo. Draw swirl line to right of butterfly with black pen.
