Slide mounts—those little paper squares—are absolutely irresistible!
I love them for scrapbooking, cardmaking, tags…just about any paper craft.
And I’m not the only one: Whether I’m teaching a Slide Mount class
at CKU or in New Zealand, Australia or the UK, I find plenty of like-minded
papercrafters who see the creative potential of these little paper squares!
Slide mounts are fast, they’re easy and they make a perfectly personalized
embellishment to a layout or card. This month, designer and fellow slide mount
aficionado Shauna Berglund-Immel shares three unpublished, never-before-seen
slide mount projects.
8 Candles
Shauna says: The stereo slide mount is unique because it can
be turned different directions for different looks. I turned this one on its
side, framed a number tile and added the “candles” paper ribbon
as an accent. I love the fun, festive colors of these papers and the black ribbon,
word, tile and ink really add some fun energy. This would be great for a birthday
card focal or scrapbook page embellishment. You might also use it on the cover
of a sarabinder™ (coming soon) celebrating
your child’s eighth birthday party with photos, guest lists and gift lists.
Supplies:
Instructions:
Cover the stereo slide mount with striped paper, trim to size and ink the
edges with black. Glue it to frame a number tile representing the age. Cut out
the “candles” ribbon fragment and glue it vertically to theright
side of the slide mount. Use an X-acto® knife to cut two small slits in
the slide mount and insert the brads. Cut a 1”-long piece of black grosgrain
ribbon, fold in half to form a loop and adhere the loose ends to the backside
of the slide mount.
Love
Shauna says: Four alphabet tiles from the 8”x8”
paper collection fit perfectly inside the window of this slide mount—you
could also “spell” the year using number tiles. I wanted a subtle,
elegant look for this slide mount, so I covered and matted it on coordinating
tone-on-tone papers, then added a heart clip and a sheer ribbon for dimension.
This embellishment would be beautiful on a wedding or anniversary page, or on
a wedding card, Mother’s Day card or Valentine.
Supplies:
Instructions:
Cover slide mount with lacy tan paper and ink the edges with black. Mat the
slide mount on tan dot paper and trim to 1/4” mat. Ink the edges with
black. Cut out and arrange the alphabet tiles within the square slide mount
window, gluing them to the dot paper. Clip on the heart clip. Tie a bow in a
piece of sheer ribbon, trim the tails to 1” long and attach to the center
of the heart clip with a Glue Dot™.
Tropical Seashore
Shauna says: Use your slide mounts to frame a faux-postage
stamp image mounted on foam tape to make a dimensional embellishment, then add
black tape-style fragments for contrast. This slide mount would be great for
a Bon Voyage card focal or a vacation scrapbook page accent.
Supplies:
Instructions:
Cover the slide mount with teal texture portion of the patterned paper and
ink the edges with black. Tie a knot in two 4”-long pieces of purple grosgrain
ribbon and place a Glue Dot™ underneath each knot. Attach one to the upper
right-hand corner of the slide mount, and the other to the bottom left corner.
Wrap the ends around to the backside of the slide mount and secure the ends
with tape.
Use foam tape to mount the slide mount to frame a portion of the patterned
paper so the printed stripe runs across the center of the slide mount window.
Trim excess paper. Ink the edges of the postage stamp with black, place foam
tape on the backside of the postage stamp and center it inside the slide mount
window. Glue tape-style fragments above and below the postage stamp.
