Stylish stickers add a whole new look to scrapbook pages, cards and other papercrafts.
But sometimes it’s easy to think stickers can be used only one way—the
way we bought them. Not true, as designer Paris Dukes found out!
Paris’ latest discovery is stickers printed onto alter-able adhesive
cardstock—these are embellishments that do double-duty! Try sanding, chalking,
inking and distressing them…or simply use them as is. Because the stickers
are cardstock, they have a “tooth” that easily accepts ink or chalk.
They’re also a substantial weight so you can easily add brads, pinwheels
and other metal embellishments.
Take a look at Paris’ layout. A simple wedding page needs only a few
elegant embellishments to make the photo shine. Paris inked the edges of the
stickers with brown, then embellished them with grosgrain ribbon loops secured
with brads and pinwheels. The page is simple and streamlined, but the altered
stickers add a touch of personalized flair. Take a look and discover Paris’
tips and techniques!

Supplies:
Instruction:
- Place the floral paper with the ribbon border at the top. Double-mat your
photo on ivory, then tan solid papers. Wrap ribbon around the left side of
the photo as shown, securing the ends to the backside of the mat with clear
tape.
- Cut a 4 3/4”x12” piece of vellum. Place on your work surface
(with scrap paper underneath) and drag the edge of your inkpad along the two
long edges of the vellum strip. Set aside and allow to dry.
- Place the vellum strip across the center of the background paper, attaching
with adhesive. Tip: Place the adhesive where it will be hidden by the
photo. Glue the photo on top of the vellum.
- Journal on the right side of the vellum as shown. Tip: Computer journal
the information in a handwriting font, then slip it underneath the vellum
and trace with a brown pen.
- Ink the edges of the cardstock stickers. Because the stickers are close
to each other on the sheet, Paris found it easier to peel off the sticker,
attach it to a piece of scrap paper, then place the sticker on her work surface
and tap her inkpad along the edges. After inking, she cut out the sticker.
- The ribbon sticker is 11 1/2” long. To make it stretch across her
12”-wide page, Paris cut the sticker in two, about 1” from the
left side, so the cut is hidden by the tag stickers. Add brads and pinwheels
to the bride and groom stickers and attach to the page as shown, making sure
the cut in the ribbon sticker is hidden.
- Add pinwheels, brads and ribbons to the word tags. For the loops: Paris
made a loop in a 3” piece of grosgrain ribbon, then secured the non-looped
end to the backside of her sticker with a brad and pinwheel. Be sure to punch
a hole through the sticker and the ribbon to make it easier to place the brad.
- For the “marriage” embellishment at the bottom right of the
page, Paris secured a 3” piece of ribbon to the backside of the “marriage”
sticker, overlapping the ribbon at the top as shown. A brad is pierced through
the top of the ribbon. Two straight sections of ribbon are attached to the
two pieces to join them.
- Paris Dukes designs for Hot Off The Press idea books as well as the Paper
Wishes catalog; her work can also be seen in scrapbooking and papercrafting
magazines in the United States, Australia and the UK. She says, “I’m
really loving the versatility of these cardstock stickers…they’re
perfect for the times when you just want a quick and easy layout, and they
have so many creative possibilities for those days when you want to play.”
