Attachments

We admit: We’re helpless to resist any kind of paper crafting embellishment, from scrapbooking accessories to cardmaking goodies. And our latest love is a line called Attachments…these are themed, coordinating items like fabric pockets, vinyl tags, printed ribbon and printed slide mount frames. What do we love about them? Well, they’re easy to use, they’re totally themed and coordinated so we know they look great together, and they’re bright and colorful—perfect for spring!

Shauna Berglund-Immel took a few of her favorite Attachments and created a sweet birthday card and a sports-themed layout. Take a look at her techniques!

Shauna’s Tip: This is a fun way to get a lot of photos and memorabilia onto one page! The pocket is the perfect place to tuck game tickets and small wallet sized photos. The slide mount frames work as photo or journaling frames. The ribbon is a great accent—I tucked photos under and over for a fun layered look. It’s a fast-paced layout with lots of action!

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Glue two 4x6 horizontal photos across the top of a black sheet of cardstock.
  2. Tear approximately 4” off of the top of the basketball words paper and adhere to the black cardstock.
  3. Run black ribbon horizontally across the bottom of the layout, 2 1/2” from bottom edge.
  4. Adhere pocket to right side of layout over ribbon.
  5. Mat large photo on white, trim to 1/16”, mat on black and trim to 1/8”. Tuck under ribbon and adhere.
  6. Glue frame over photo and trim to size. Loop gingham ribbon and attach to back of frame. Adhere with foam tape over ribbon and large photo.
  7. Mat another small photo on white, trim to 1/16”, mat on black and trim to 1/8”. Top with gingham ribbon folded over and stapled. Tuck into pocket.
  8. Mat tickets on black, trim to 1/16”. Staple folded over ribbon to tops and tuck into pocket with foam tape.
  9. Computer journal on white, frame with small frame. Trim excess. Add to pocket.

Shauna’s Tip: Attachments are so fun to use on cards as they’re the perfect size! You can use the pocket to hold a birthday message, or simply leave it as the card focal. I customized the vinyl tag by cutting it up and piecing two words together, then backing it with colored paper to make the words stand out.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Cut the pink and yellow plaid paper into a 4 3/4” x 6 1/4” rectangle and glue it centered, on the card front. Punch 5, evenly spaced holes approximately 1/8” from the card fold. Cut two 4” lengths of ribbon per hole, thread both through the hole and knot. Repeat, alternating colors (pink grosgrain, yellow striped, pink gingham, yellow grosgrain, pink grosgrain).
  2. Computer journal the baby information, remembering to leave space under the name for the photo. Print onto white cardstock. Cut into a 2 1/4” x 5 1/2” strip and clip the top 2 corners off to make a tag. Mat the tag on yellow cardstock, leaving a 1/16” wide border. Trim the photo into a 1” x 1/2” rectangle and mat with white and yellow cardstock. Mount the photo with foam tape.
  3. Punch a hole at the top of the tag. Thread the gingham through the hole and tie the remaining ribbon lengths at the center. Trim the tails to 1 1/2” long. Slide the heart clip over the knot and pull the ribbon tails up through the heart.
  4. Use Glue Dots™ to secure the sheer pocket to the card front. Place the tag into the pocket as shown.
