Covering the Covers
Cut a 6"x8" piece of blue flowers paper. Glue a blank cover
centered to the back of the paper. Miter the corners: Fold each corner
of the paper at a 45° angle onto the cover blank (see diagram 1) and
glue in place. Fold in each side of the paper onto the cover blank and
glue in place. Punch the holes with a 1/4” hole punch. Repeat for
the back cover.
Tear a 2 1/2”-wide piece of blue sponged paper and
glue vertically to the front cover, wrapping the ends around the back
and securing with glue. Cut out the “A mother holds her children’s
hands” quote into a rectangle and mat on blue glimmer paper. Chalk
“Mother” and “Hearts”. Glue to front cover, placing
a blue tag cut-out at an angle behind the quote. Tie a 5” piece
of blue fiber around the head of the key and secure to the cover with
Glue Dots.
Inside Front Cover:
Use a blank page as a template to cut a piece of blue flower paper and
glue to the inside front cover, then repunch the holes. Cut out “You
make me proud” quote and chalk “proud”. Mat on blue
glimmer paper. Ink the edges of the large blue tag. Tie a knot in a 4”
piece of fiber and glue the knot over the hole in the tag. Mat the quote
on the large tag, then attach to the page. Write “Mom” on
a small blue tag and to the page, overlapping the quote.
Page Two:
Cover a page blank with light blue texture paper. Tear a 2”-wide
piece of flowered paper and glue to the right side of the page (the side
without holes). Trim off excess. Fold a glassine envelope and wrap the
top portion with blue fibers, sliding a sliver buckle on the fibers before
securing the fiber ends to the backside of the envelope. Glue the envelope
to the page. Mat “If I know what I love” quote on blue glimmer,
then glue to the envelope. Attach silver Mother charm to the page, accenting
with fibers and brads. Secure the fibers to the page with Glue Dots, then
trim the ends of the fiber even with the page.
Page Three:
Cover the page with blue tapestry. Tear a 3”-wide strip of dark
blue texture paper and glue it horizontally across the page. Ink the edges
of the “Sometimes you know me” quote, then mat on blue vellum.
Tie a small piece of fiber around a circular clip, then attach the clip
to the quote. Tie a knot in a piece of blue fiber, trim the tails to 1/4”
and adhere to the top of a round tag with a Glue Dot. Ink the word “mother”
and attach to the tag.
Page Four:
Cover the page with blue tapestry. Ink the edges of a blue tag and add
a knotted piece of fiber to the tag top with a Glue Dot. Punch two folders:
One from dark blue paper, the other from light blue paper. Glue back to
back and fold so the dark blue is on the outside. Glue the “you
are so special” quote to the inside of the folder and trim the edges.
Add a punched heart and a chalked “embrace” word to the front.
Glue the tag onto page at an angle. Mat the “Thank you” quote
on blue glimmer and chalk “thank you”. Secure a heart brad
to the top of the quote, then secure a black turn button to the right
side of the quote. Glue quote to the page, overlapping the tag so the
turn button holds the folder closed.
Page Five:
Cover the page with blue waves paper and write “Happy Mother’s
Day” at the top. Ink the edges of the light blue tag. Add a piece
of fiber to the tag top with a brad. Mat “This book is dedicated”
quote on blue glimmer and chalk the word “love”. Add a stickpin
through the quote as shown (Tip: use a needle or x-acto knife to poke
holes before inserting the stickpin).
Inside Back Cover:
Use a page blank to cut a piece of blue texture paper; glue to the inside
back cover. Mat “Thank you for everything” quote on blue glimmer
paper, then chalk “everything”. Tie a knot in a piece of fiber,
then wrap the fiber around the upper left corner of the quote so the knot
is in front. Secure the ends of the fiber at the back and glue to the
page. Punch two folders: One from glimmer and one from light blue parchment.
Glue back to back and fold so the glimmer paper is on the outside. Glue
a heart charm to the outside. Tuck a signed tag partially inside the folder.
Add to the page. Slide a buckle on a piece of blue fiber; glue a charm
in the center of the buckle and secure to page with Glue Dots.
Binding your book
Cut three 18” lengths of remaining fibers. Place them in three
separate groups. Gather one group and wrap a small piece of scotch tape
around the very end of the fiber group—this will make it easier
for all those fuzzy fibers to fit through the series of holes. Start with
the center hole, pulling the fibers through all the pages. Tie the fibers
in a loose knot so the pages can turn easily. Repeat for the left and
right holes.
