Paris used this cigar box purse as a way to celebrate her
trips across the country.
Preparing the Box:
Paris used masking tape to cover the hardware on the box then lightly
sanded the box outside and inside. She then wiped the box clean with a
soft cloth, applied a coat of sealer to the inside and outside and let
it dry. After completing the box, Paris removed the masking tape.
Decorating the Box:
After painting the purse black, Paris lightly sanded the edges for a shabby
chic look. She glued travel posters, stamps, state seals, tickets and
postcards on the front and back of the purse. For a bit of whimsy, Paris
fanned three admission tickets, then glued a domino across the bottom
of the tickets. Tape-Style fragments were glued to the slide
mounts. One slide mount features travel art and another makes a perfect
frame for a domino.
Attaching the Purse Handle:
To attach the purse handle, Paris drilled holes in each side of the lid
for the handle base pieces. Next she inserted the screw into the drilled
hole from the lid inside and tightened with a screwdriver to secure the
handle base in place.
Supplies:
Project reprinted from Cigar
Box Purses; this craft books contains ideas for creating 20 different
purses plus ten sheets of vintage cigar box artwork, making it easy to
transform an ordinary wood box into a fashionable accessory.
