Tiny Purple Journal
By Susan
Cobb
A
tiny journal makes a heartfelt gift—especially when it’s made
for a dear friend! Susan created a collage of torn papers, then accented
the journal cover with a sweet black grosgrain ribbon turned into a buckle.
Supplies:
Instructions:
- Remove the cover of the journal from the spiral binding: gently open
the binding, then slip the cover off the coil. (Depending on the journal
manufacturer, you may also need to remove the pages.)
- Apply adhesive to the front of the cover, then cover with light purple
texture paper. Trim excess from the sides of the cover. Add a torn piece
of dark purple paper on top, again trimming the excess. Add a torn piece
of “friends” paper and trim excess.
- Turn cover over and use an X-acto® knife to cut the paper from
the holes for the binding. Secure cover to coil binding.
- Decorate the cover with a 3” piece of black grosgrain ribbon
(with each end cut at an angle). Punch out the gold oval frame Punch-Out™.
Use the X-acto® knife to cut out the center of the oval. Glue the
oval frame to a piece of dark purple paper and trim around the oval
shape, so the dark purple shows through the frame.
- Cut out a “friends” word from the “friends”
paper. Use foam tape to attach it to a piece of light purple texture paper;
tear the edges. Center in the oval.
- Insert an eyelet about 2” from one end of the grosgrain ribbon.
Insert the buckle onto the ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around the front
cover of the book. Add a gold photo corner to the end of the grosgrain
ribbon.
