A love for decorating and design drew Kit Swan to the art of scrapbooking just under a year ago. After seeing a scrapbooking presentation on a popular shopping network, Kit, a mother of four from New England, was drawn to the craft. “I loved all the coordinated papers and embellishments,” she explains. “The layouts were all so beautiful, and me with 15 years of boxed up photos, well it was the perfect solution!” Kit picked up the phone and called the 800 number—she was hooked!

Though shopping is definitely one of Kit’s favorite parts of scrapbooking—she’s constantly inspired by great products—she loves being able to transform a few pieces of paper, some stickers and embellishments into a cherished page. “I try to scrapbook REAL photos—photos that were taken of actual life—not just for the layout. I try to convey the spirit of the photo and the memory that goes along with it.”

Kit now equates her love of scrapbooking with her passion for decorating; she’s always considered herself a creative person. “Creating a beautiful layout for me is very much the same process for me as decorating a beautiful room. Choosing the papers, photos and embellishments to me is similar to choosing wallcoverings, furniture and accessories,” Kit explains. Kit also has a passion for planning as a freelance wedding planner. “There’s something quite wonderful in helping another person create that one special day that they have been looking forward to for their entire life,” she says.

What comes naturally to Kit is selecting all of the elements for her page. “It’s very easy for me to combine the papers, the stickers, the ribbon and lumpy embellishments,” she says. “The challenge comes in figuring out how to best combine those ingredients to create a new layout from scratch.” Oftentimes, Kit will redesign a layout over and over, until suddenly it will come together.

Recently, Kit has applied this knack for design to creating 8”x8” albums. “I actually LOVE scrapbooking in the 8”x8” format,” Kit says. “As a fairly new scrapbooker, I find that a 12”x12” page can sometimes be intimidating—so much page to fill! With an 8”x8” layout, I can easily fit my photos, title and journaling onto the page, and it’s “just enough” space for me.”

This month Kit shares some layouts she created using the 8”x8” Kids Papers. Here’s what she had to say about the pages:

With Riley’s preschool photo, I couldn’t believe my baby was already in preschool! I wanted to create an extra-special layout in honor of my extra-special little guy. I turned to the Kids collection and found just what I was looking for!

Kit used the following supplies for her pages:

8”x8” Kids Papers
• Junkitz Alphabet Buttons
• Offray Ribbon
• MM Ribbon Slide
• Treasured Memories Eyelets
• Ink It Up! Inks
• chalk
• Amery Font
• cardstock
• Sizzlets Dies
