Like many scrapbookers, Darlene
Pease loves to tell stories about the photos she's taken and the fun she's
had with friends and family. And it's no wonder—with a close-knit
family here in Oregon, Darlene has many fond memories to choose from.
She and her husband Mike have been married for 31 years and have two children,
daughter Erin (25) and son Derek (22), both engaged to be married.
Darlene
and Mike live in Silverton, OR while their daughter Erin lives next door
and their son lives in a neighboring town. "My family is very important
to me and it seems there isn't always time to do everything I'd like with
all of them," Darlene explains. She and Mike spend a lot of time
camping in their travel trailer and enjoy campouts with a group once a
month. Darlene even gets a chance to work on her albums here, as one of
their fellow campers is another scrapbooker.
The couple very recently sold the auto parts store they've owned since
1978, which will give Darlene a chance to catch up on her scrapbooking.
"There are 31 years worth of pictures stored away and that doesn't
count any of the heritage pictures that my mother is passing on to me."
With all of these memories, Darlene has a hard time deciding which photos
to leave out and which to include in her album pages. "Once I start
looking at older pictures of my kids when they were young, I have a hard
time stopping the reminiscing about the fun times we had. They just seem
to have grown up too fast," Darlene says.
One
of Darlene's biggest challenges (apart from hiding the cost of scrapbooking
from her husband) is trying to get 31 years worth of memories into albums
with journaling. "I hate to do journaling and tend to leave room
for it later. Then it just snowballs and I have that much more to do.
I'm working hard to journal each page as I do it," she confesses.
Here Darlene shares a cherished family layout. This spread was created
just after the death of her father-in-law, who lived next door to Darlene
and Mike for 27 years. The layout celebrates his love for fishing throughout
his lifetime.
The poem states:
"Fishing with my dad
Underneath the sun...
Maybe we'll get lucky
and catch us one!
Oohh...they're kinda slimy...
and they smell pretty bad...
but I don't have to touch them
as long as I'm with Dad!!!"
