School has started and Halloween is just around the corner. Whether your little girl is taking dance lessons or wants to be a ballerina for Halloween, this ribbon skirt will be the crowning touch to the perfect outfit.
Supplies
- 1 1/2 wide white grosgrain ribbon
- 1/2 wide white elastic (waist length, plus 1 1/2)
- 2 yards of 7/8 wide white satin ribbon
- 3 yards of 3/8 wide pink sheer ribbon with satin edges
- 2 yards of 3/8 wide light blue sheer ribbon with satin edges
- 2 yards of 3/8 wide lavender sheer ribbon with satin edges
- 2 yards of 1/4 wide light blue sheer ribbon
- 2 yards of 1/4 wide iridescent ribbon
- 2 wide light blue sheer ribbon butterfly with wire and clear bead body
- sewing needles
- white thread
- 1 long safety pin
- sewing machine
Instructions:
- To determine the length of grosgrain ribbon for the waistband, measure the childs waist and multiply by two. To form the casing, fold the ribbon in half so its 3/4 wide, then use a sewing machine to stitch 1/8 along the long edge, leaving both ends open.
- Fasten the safety pin to one end of the elastic. Insert the pin into the ribbon casing, slowly scrunching the fabric as you thread the elastic through the casing. Sew each end of the elastic to the casing end, then sew the casing ends together.
- Cut one yard from the pink sheer ribbon and set it aside. Cut the remaining ribbons into 10-12 lengths. Fold one end of each ribbon over 1/4 and hand sew it to the inside of the waistband, alternating the ribbon styles around the waistband.
- Make a loopy bow with the yard of pink ribbon with six 1 1/2 loops. Sew the bow to the center front of the waistband, then sew the ribbon butterfly to the center of the bow.
