It’s the perfect summer decoration for your porch, your home or
even for a gift! This American Flag themed terra cotta pot is a clever
way to show your patriotism.
Supplies:
- 6 1/2 wide terra cotta pot
- Woodsie™ stars: five 1 1/4”, five 3/4” wide
- acrylic paints: navy blue, ivory, dark yellow, brown, burgundy
- 1” wide foam brush
- 1/2” wide flat paintbrush
- medium point black pen
- Delta Ceramcot® All-Purpose Sealer
- Krylon® Crystal Clear Coating Spray Sealer
- E6000 Glue
- paper towel
Instructions:
- Seal the pot with All-Purpose Sealer and let dry. With the foam brush
paint the inside of the pot and the rim navy blue; let dry. Paint four
burgundy stripes on the side of the pot with the stripes wider at the
op and narrower at the bottom. The top of the stripes are 2 1/4”
wide and the bottoms are 1 1/2” wide; let dry.
Use
the flat brush to apply brown paint on the outer edge of each ivory
stripe. Side load burgundy paint onto the ivory stripes to give the
pot an aged look. To side load, dip a flat brush in water and touch
it gently onto a paper towel to remove excess water. Dip one corner
into a fresh puddle of paint. Blend by stroking back and forth on the
palette 2-3 times. Touch again to the paper towel, then stroke onto
the project. Try practicing first on paper before painting the pot.
Float a darker color to shade; float a lighter or brighter color to
highlight.
- Use the pen to make a dash-dot border down each side of the burgundy
stripes. Spray the pot with sealer and let dry. Paint the stars yellow
and float brown paint to age; let dry. Draw a dash-dot border on each
star and glue them evenly spaced around the rim.

- Tear a piece of cork and glue to the top left corner as shown. Cut
and edge the two sewing ephemera images and add to the box top. Cut
out “dream”, “imagine” and “follow your
bliss” fragments and add to the box top.
