Every artist needs an art box to stash supplies. This cardboard box with
flip-top lid is the perfect surface for collaging, too—simply color
with direct-to-paper inking techniques and layer paper and 3-D treasures
on top to personalize it. Great for taking to crops!
Supplies:
Instructions:
- Apply Graphite Black ink to the entire box, rubbing the inkpad directly
onto the cardboard. Let dry, then skim the box with Coffee Bean ink.
- Tear a 6 1/2”x8” piece of Tan Text paper; edge with black
and glue to the box top. Cut out the red trim from the Vintage Ephemera
collection and glue along the right-hand side of the box top, slipping
the blue style tag underneath before securing the top of the trim to the
box. Cut two 1 1/2”-wide strips of Tan Faded paper; edge with black
ink and glue across the box as shown.
- Use direct-to-paper inking to color one square slide mount and one
circular slide mount with black. Let dry.
- Cut out the letters to spell “art box” from the alphabet
in Vintage Ephemera. Lightly tap the brown inkpad directly onto each letter;
edge with black. Mat the “r” and the “o” on red
paper. Glue the “t” to a piece of mica and staple to secure.
Glue the “b” to the metal dog tag, threading a piece of brown
fiber through the hole. Glue the “x” to a piece of cork and
tear each edge. Arrange letters and slide mounts as shown, attaching the
“a” and the “o” with foam tape.
- Tear a piece of cork and glue to the top left corner as shown. Cut
and edge the two sewing ephemera images and add to the box top. Cut out
“dream”, “imagine” and “follow your bliss”
fragments and add to the box top.
