Patriotic Heart Treat Bag
by Sheryl Radakovich
For
a simple and creative treat bag, try out this fun pattern from Fabulous
Felt. It’s perfect for Valentine’s treats, a birthday surprise
or a simple gift bag!
Supplies:
- felt: navy, red, white
- 30" of 3⁄8" wide white satin ribbon
- black embroidery floss
- polyester fiberfill
- sewing needle
- straight pin
- basic supplies: scissors, ruler, tacky craft glue, tracing paper, disappearing
ink pen
Instructions:
- Trace and transfer the patterns by tracing onto tracing paper, then cutting
out and using a disappearing pen to trace onto appropriate color of felt.
Cut out the felt as follows: red: four 5" squares, one small heart; two
navy large hearts; one white star. Pin two red squares together and blanket
stitch around the top edges. Repeat for the two remaining red squares.
- Place the two stitched tops together and blanket stitch around the sides
and bottom of the layers to form a pocket.
- Pin the star to the red heart and sew a running stitch to secure. Place
the red heart on a navy heart and blanket stitch around the edges to secure.
Place the navy heart on the remaining heart and blanket stitch around the
two edges. Glue the heart centered on the pocket.
- Cut the ribbon into three 10" lengths. Glue the ends of one length
inside the pocket top to form a handle. With each remaining length, make a
shoestring bow with 1 1/4" loops and 1 1/2" tails.
 To
make a shoestring bow: Start by measuring the tail length from the end of the
ribbon, then make a loop of the specified length. Wrap the free end of the ribbon
loosely around the center of the loop. Form a loop in the free end of the ribbon
and push it through the center loop. Pull the loops in opposite directions to
tighten, then pull the tails to adjust the size of the loops. Trim each tail
at an angle. Glue a bow to each handle base.
