Lavender bag with buttons and gingham ribbon from the book Organza Bag-Its™, published by Hot Off The Press
Turn a simple organza bag into sophisticated gift wrap. This decorative organza bag is perfect for holding a charming present, filling with favors, bath salts, pretty soaps or aromatic candles—and it's simple to make.
Supplies:
  • 5" x 10" lavender organza bag with drawstrings
  • ten 3/8"-3/4" wide purple and lavender buttons
  • 9" of 5/8" wide purple and white gingham ribbon
  • ivory embroidery floss
  • needle, straight pins
  • white tissue paper
  • scissors
Instructions:
  1. Open the bag and lay flat. Fold each end of the ribbon under 1/4" and pin the ribbon vertically down the front of the bag, just left of center. Thread the needle with floss and use a blanket stitch (see below) down each side of the ribbon to secure it to the bag. Remove the pins.
  2. Evenly space and stitch 8 of the buttons over the ribbon either stitching or knotting the buttons to the ribbon. Stitch and knot the remaining two buttons over the knots on the drawstring ends as shown. Fill the bag. Tie the drawstrings with a shoestring bow.
Sewing a Blanket Stitch:

Thread the needle and knot the end. Insert the needle into the fabric back, pull to the front and re-insert 1/4" from the first insertion point. Insert the needle into the fabric back so it emerges inside the edge of the first loop and pull and repeat.

How to Tie a Shoestring Bow:
  1. Measure the desired tail length from the end of the ribbon, then make a loop of the specified length. Wrap the free end of the ribbon loosely around the center of the bow.
  2. Form a loop in the free end of the ribbon and push it through the center loop. Pull the loops in opposite directions to tighten, then pull on the tails to adjust the size of the loops. Trim each tail diagonally or in an inverted "V".
